Claude PPTX skill — Pitch decks that stay slides

Create and edit real .pptx decks — layouts, speaker notes, templates — instead of markdown bullets someone has to rebuild in PowerPoint the night before the meeting.

Access: Claude paid tiers often ship presentation document skills built-in (or via the document-skills plugin). The skill artifact on GitHub is free to browse/clone; host Claude product plans may still apply for runtime use.

What it does
Gives Claude presentation-native steps: outline → slide layouts → edit existing decks/templates → export that opens in PowerPoint or Google Slides.
Best for
Founders, PMs, and sales teams shipping pitch, QBR, and customer decks that must remain editable slides.
How to install / use
Enable Anthropic’s pptx skill from anthropics/skills (or Claude document-skills plugin / built-in document skills on eligible paid plans). Lock audience + slide count + one message per slide before drafting.

If the room opens PowerPoint, attach pptx before you draft the narrative.

Copy this

  • Lock slide count + one message per slide before body copy
  • Separate speaker notes from on-slide text — never dump paragraphs on the canvas
  • Ask for a thumbnail/grid review pass before final export

When to use

Use Anthropic’s official pptx Agent Skill when the deliverable must remain an editable slide deck — pitch, QBR, customer update, or template-based edits — not a markdown outline that someone rebuilds in PowerPoint at 11pm.

Good fits:

  • Seed / Series pitch narratives with a fixed slide budget.
  • Editing an existing branded .pptx / .potx without destroying layouts.
  • Extracting slide text + notes for a memo, then pushing revisions back into the deck.
  • Sales or customer QBRs that need speaker notes separate from on-slide copy.

Skip it for Slack updates, blog posts, or one-pager PDFs where slides are the wrong container.

Access note

Claude paid tiers often include presentation document skills built-in, or via Anthropic’s document-skills plugin. The skill folder on GitHub is free to browse and clone. Baonat lists it for host-subscription users — we do not sell a separate paid skill pack. Runtime still depends on your Claude plan or API surface.

Why

Markdown “decks” look fine in chat and fail in the room: too much text, no layout, no notes. Anthropic’s public pptx skill (in anthropics/skills) keeps presentations first-class: create, read, and edit .pptx with layout-aware steps instead of hoping paste into PowerPoint works.

Baonat marks this verified. Artifact on GitHub is free; Claude product billing may still apply when you run it.

Install

  1. Get the skill from skills/pptx, or install Anthropic’s document-skills plugin / use Claude’s built-in document skills per Agent Skills overview.
  2. Lock constraints: audience, slide count, tone, must-keep brand template (if any).
  3. Outline pass first — title + one message per slide — approve before body.
  4. Draft slides with short on-canvas copy; put detail in speaker notes.
  5. Visual review (thumbnail/grid) for overcrowded slides.
  6. Open in PowerPoint/Slides for brand polish and human fact-check.

Copy this

Kickoff prompt:

Attach the pptx skill. Audience: [who]. Goal: [pitch|QBR|customer update].
Slide budget: [N]. One message per slide. On-slide text ≤ [6] lines; detail in speaker notes.
Brand/template: [none | attach .pptx/.potx]. Forbidden: walls of paragraph text, invented metrics.
First response ONLY: slide outline (title + one-line message). After approval, build the .pptx.
Finish with a density checklist and list of slides that still need human numbers.

Concrete scenarios

  1. Fundraising deck. 12-slide narrative from a memo; metrics left as [TBD] until founders fill them.
  2. Template refresh. Keep master layouts; rewrite body slides only.
  3. QBR pack. Extract last quarter’s deck, update numbers, regenerate charts/notes.

Pitfalls / when NOT to use

  • Essay-on-a-slide. Enforce line limits in the prompt.
  • Invented traction. Ban fake metrics explicitly.
  • Wrong container. If the artifact is a PDF one-pager or Word brief, use those skills.

A: Export/import may be needed; say the target tool in the prompt and verify layouts after upload.

Q: Free on GitHub?
A: The skill artifact is free to obtain. Paid Claude plans often already expose document skills at runtime.
