Matt Grill Me

You think the agent “got it” until it builds the wrong thing — /grill-me stress-tests the plan with frontier questions until nothing is silently assumed.

MultiVerifiedAccess: MIT and free to clone; your host plan may be required to run agents.
What changes
User-invoked entry skill that starts a grilling session: the agent interviews you in rounds (design-tree frontier) until shared understanding — then waits for your go-ahead before acting.
When

Use Matt Pocock’s /grill-me when you need a relentless interview to sharpen a plan or design before the agent acts — every decision branch visited, nothing silently assumed.

Suite install note: install the Matt Pocock skills suite (plugin or npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills), not a lone copy of grill-me. /grill-me is a user-invoked entry whose body calls the Skill tool with grilling — the reusable model-invoked interview primitive. Without the suite, the entry skill has nothing to invoke. For code changes that should also update glossary/ADRs, prefer /grill-with-docs from the same suite after install.

Good fits:

  • Pre-build alignment on a feature, architecture choice, or product decision.
  • Non-code plans where you still want a design-tree interview.
  • Stopping “agent built the wrong thing” failure modes early.

Skip it for structured long-form doc co-authoring (claude-doc-coauthoring), five-axis PR review (addy-code-review-and-quality), or when you already have a locked spec and only need implementation.

How to start
Install the Matt Pocock skills suite (not grill-me alone), run setup once, then invoke /grill-me. The entry skill may call the model-invoked grilling skill.

Ready to adapt. Paste. Run. Use.

Install the full suite — /grill-me alone needs grilling available.

EXAMPLE prompt

/grill-me
Topic: [plan / design / decision]. Goal: shared understanding before any implementation.
Run grilling rounds: ask the whole frontier each round (numbered Qs + your recommended answer).
Wait for my answers before the next round. Look up facts yourself; decisions stay with me.
Stop when the design-tree frontier is empty. Do not write code until I confirm we are aligned.

Keep in mind

  • Install the Matt Pocock suite; /grill-me is an entry that may invoke grilling
  • Answer each frontier round before the next; do not skip to coding
  • Session ends when the design tree frontier is empty — then you confirm
